Defence Communications Project Bid

Client – THALES Communications, Reading


Brief – THALES Communications, Reading were bidding with a major Prime Contractor to supply a defence communications system to a government customer.  The team was experiencing difficulty in this complex, multi-company situation that included several disparate partners and a fluid and changing customer requirement.  Additional senior level resource was required on an interim basis with very little time available before bid submission.  The brief was to provide interim leadership support in delivering a successful outcome with particular emphasis on the programme management aspects of the bid.


Contribution – Immediately following a previous successful assignment with Thales Communications Vee Solutions Ltd was asked to support the bid team at very short notice.  Vee Solutions deployed in less than a week to join the team in a bid leadership support role.  While the Business Unit Director and Bid Manager continued to focus on the commercial and technical facets of the bid, Vee Soliutions exploited the deep knowledge of programme management to drive this part forward.  Vincent assumed leadership of the bid team in the daily “stand-up” meetings from day 2 and worked with the management team to assess and define priorities for the whole team.


Outcome –Vincent quickly built excellent working relationships with the bid team and contributed to discussions and negotiations with the Prime Contractor, particularly on programme planning and management.  His day-to-day leadership freed time for the permanent management staff to focus on the detailed technical and commercial elements of the bid.
