Culture Change using CMMI Level 2

Client – QinetiQ, Command & Information Systems Division

Brief – QinetiQ C&IS were introducing a cultural change in Project Management. This change included the introduction of CMMI as a metric for measuring progress towards the end goal of achieving a “World Class” capability in project management. The responsible manager had become aware that the project could be in danger of losing momentum and wanted an experienced, independent view of someone who had both management seniority and experience at implementing and driving the cultural changes necessary.

Contribution – Vee Solutions worked with the Business Group Manager and his team who were responsible for delivering the culture change programme.  Dr. Considine supported the team in understanding the key influences in delivering the programme and in defining and clearly articulating the business outcomes required.  He facilitated a significant process definition workshop that brought the Process Owners, Process Coaches and senior management together. The workshop fully defined the business processes and trained the Process Owners and Process Coaches on their application as well as enabling considerable cross-fertilisation of ideas.  Dr. Considine contributed specific expertise on measuring process outputs into the definitions.  His experience of other CMMI implementations was instrumental in moving this project forward.

Outcome – The business unit developed a coherent set of project management processes with well-defined business measurement plans.  The CMMI accreditation programme was back on track and driving towards meeting the business schedules.  The culture change gained momentum.

Dr. Considine is a QinetiQ Trusted Expert.
